Public Interest Disclosure (Prescribed Persons) (Amendment) Order 2015 comes into force

The Order adds maintained schools, maintained nursery schools, independent schools including academies and free schools, non-maintained special schools, pupil referral units, alternative provision academies,16-19 academies and free schools, sixth-form colleges and special post-16 institutions, to the list of bodies to whom employees may make a qualifying disclosure.

Fit for Work service in place

The Fit for Work service, previously known as the Health and Work Service, will offer free occupational health assistance to employees, employers and GPs, including an independent assessment of employees who have been off sick for four weeks.

Deregulation Act 2015 comes into force

The Deregulation Act 2015 removes the power of employment tribunals to make wider recommendations in discrimination cases from the Equality Act 2010.

Sikh exemption from wearing a safety helmet on a construction site is extended to all workplaces

The Deregulation Act 2015 amends s.11 of the Employment Act 1989 (exemption of Sikhs from requirements as to wearing of safety helmets on construction sites) to exempt turban-wearing Sikhs from having to wear a safety helmet at any workplace.

Employment tribunals lose power to make wider recommendations in discrimination cases

The Deregulation Act 2015 repeals the provision in the Equality Act 2010 that allows employment tribunals to make wider recommendations (that may benefit others, and not just the claimant personally) in discrimination cases.

The Pensions Act 2014 introduces a new state pension for people reaching state pension age on or after 6 April 2016. The State Pension Regulations 2015 set out some of the detailed rules of the new scheme.
