Transforming a culture in an organisation can be a challenge and must be handled with care.
You cannot borrow a ‘culture’ or just deliver what you think it is going to be, you need to get the buy in of your employees and involve them in the process and discussions.
The annual cost of UK poor level of engagement is said to be 26 billion per year, so this is definitely something to address.
There are 4 enablers to achieve a transformation of culture:-
- Have visible, empowering leaders who can share a strong strategic narrative about the organisation, where it’s come from and where it’s going.
- Recruit, train and support engaging Managers to better focus their people and give them scope; treating them as individuals, coaching and stretching.
- Give all your employees a voice for reinforcing and challenging views, acknowledge them as central to solving your business challenges and driving innovation.
- Have organisational integrity – make sure the values on the wall are reflected in day to day behaviours of EVERYONE in the business at all levels. There is no ‘say –do’ gap, anywhere.
Listen to your employees to understand, involve and to act and adapt!
Regular Team meetings, 1:1’s, online discussions and polls, fortnightly Executive stand up Q&A, quarterly engagement surveys are all ways in which to maintain and gather your employees input.
Having an Annual deep dive survey! and listening regularly is the key!
